Item #1
The mission of the Free Science, Inc. is to promote equity in science education for underserved and underrepresented community members through accessible, interest-driven neighborhood-based science spaces and mobile programs.
Access to quality hands-on STEM experiences and opportunities is a crucial aspect of promoting gender equity and cultivating a diverse and inclusive workforce. However, despite significant advancements in gender equality, girls continue to be underrepresented in STEM fields. This disparity is ultimately evident in career choices, representation in higher education, and leadership roles within STEM industries.
What has become clear is that by exposing girls to immersive, meaningful exploration of the world through science is the first step to fostering the interest and confidence necessary to build a diverse workforce with equitable female representation in the STEM disciplines.
Free Science received a grant for its amazing Stem Stars program, which provides a free,
take home, hands-on project, building skills and spotlighting historical, significant and often
overlooked women from the STEM fields. Projects invite open interpretation, encouraging creativity with gender equity and the importance of women in science. Sessions are held monthly at the Free Science Workshop, and are open to all.
