Last year a Women Building Community Grant helped to fund Tech Savvy 2017, a daylong science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) program for girls in grades 6-9 held at Tompkins Cortland Community College and hosted by the AAUW (American Association of University Women) branches in Tompkins and Cortland counties. 172 girls and 42 adults attended. An additional 42 offered a wide array of workshops and 28 participated in the STEM Fair.
Girls were asked how did their Tech Savvy experience impact how you feel about yourself and your STEM opportunities:
“It inspired me to be in STEM when I get older.”
“I feel that I can have a really good chance of being an engineer.”
“It made me feel smarter.”
“I feel more confident.”
“It made me want to learn more and consider a STEM career.”
“I now have a better understanding about women in STEM.”
