Playtimes hosted by the Finger Lakes Toy Library bring high quality toys appropriate for the age range of the children attendees to communities that might not be able to come to the Toy Library.
The Finger Lakes Toy Library is the only organization in our area that brings toys to partner organizations to support children’s development through play. While many organizations incorporate play into their programming, most do not have the budgets to provide an endless variety of high quality, inclusive toys.
Equitable access to quality toys is important because in play, children learn to navigate their physical and social environment while also imagining and constructing
new realities. According to Dr. Stuart Brown, founder of the National Institute for Play, “The presence or absence of play, particularly in child development, has a great deal to do with competency, resiliency, emotional health [and] brain size.”
