Item #1
The mission of the Free Science, Inc. is to promote equity in science education for underserved and underrepresented community members through accessible, interest-driven neighborhood-based science spaces and mobile programs.
Access to quality hands-on STEM experiences and opportunities is a crucial aspect of promoting gender equity and cultivating a diverse and inclusive workforce. However, despite significant advancements in gender equality, girls continue to be underrepresented in STEM fields. This disparity is ultimately evident in career choices, representation in higher education, and leadership roles within STEM industries.
What has become clear is that by exposing girls to immersive, meaningful exploration of the world through science is the first step to fostering the interest and confidence necessary to build a diverse workforce with equitable female representation in the STEM disciplines.
The programs of Free Science provide underrepresented girls in our community the opportunity to take the lead in science exploration in a safe, female-only setting to allow them to build the confidence and interest necessary to continue their involvement in STEM above and beyond what is required in elementary, middle and high school curriculums.
